This movie was filmed like a documentary, which made it seem more real. The movie centers around a small town Reverend named Cotton Marcus. He preforms exorcisms on the sick but only does it for the money. So, essentially he is selling something that he doesn't even believe in. Rev. Marcus has a camera crew follow him around and watch him fake exorcisms. He justifies it by saying he is still helping lost souls because if someone believes they are possessed with a demon, they will only be healed when the demon is "cast out of them." and that is his job. Reverend Marcus is portrayed as the clever con artist who fakes the very act of religion.
But when Reverend Marcus discovers Nell, a girl clearly possessed by a demon, will cause him to rethink everything. Nell is his hardest case yet. The camera crew follows him on the journey to heal Nell, but disprove exorcism in the process. Will it work? Will Marcus believe in exorcisms by the end of the film?
